Women at The Well shares: Insights and a Call to Action for 2026
9 March 2026
Women at The Well has produced a short Insights Paper for International Women’s Day 2026.
This paper is based on data collected in relation to 42 women with whom we worked over one week in October 2025.
The data is anonymised and is shared alongside a Call to Action to the community around us to help address the injustice faced by local disadvantaged women, many of whom have experienced sexual exploitation.
The Insights shared include:
86% of the women in our sample had experienced childhood trauma
98% have mental health issues
64% have been or are experiencing homelessness
76% have experienced domestic abuse
69% of the women who are mothers have had one or more children removed from them
Women at The Well is issuing a Call to Action to our neighbours, local community leaders, and those working in our local area to:
recognise the deep connections between abuse in childhood and harm in sexual exploitation as adults, especially in Camden and others’ forthcoming VAWG strategies;
ensure our housing and healthcare systems respond better to women facing sexual exploitation;
for the wider community to speak up on behalf of disadvantaged women, and to help ensure Women at The Well is here in Kings Cross as long as women need us.
“The insights and data we have gathered are hard to read. They tell a stark and upsetting story of harm in childhood through to adulthood, which many of us know could have happened to us had we not had better chances in life.
“We pay tribute to the enormous strength and survival skills we see every day in the women we work with. We urge our the wider community around us to step up and help tackle this injustice.”
